This is a follow-up to the poll I posted a few minutes ago. If you haven't answered that one yet, please go check it and come back to this afterward.
Okay, so let's say that there were Dear Abby-like volunteers who took advice questions and posted them anonymously. Would you want ALL MEMBERS to be able to post comments?
You will note from the public advice forums that some members may respond thoughtfully and sensitively to your deeply personal concerns. But others can and do post rude and insensitive comments, which more often than not creates a negative/defensive dynamic in any given advice thread.
What if the Dear Abby-like guys would be the only ones who could post to this new forum? They could take comments by mail and summarize them, thoughtfully, in the threads.
We would keep the open advice threads as they are, but this new, special advice forum would be mediated and edited only by two thoughtful volunteers.
I would consider volunteering for your Abbyesque position (so long as I could assume other positions, as well), but I'm afraid I would be of no help vis. "living in Japan" type of questions. You would also have to put up with advice that was somewhat snarky and not so serious. From a crass entertainment/"lure suckers to the website" p.o.v., maybe something a little Dan Savage-like would be in order?
